Munster motor Museum
Munster Car Museum
A first of its kind for the province, this lower KZN South Coast museum boasts an impressive collection of motoring history dating back to 1923. The museum was established by local car enthusiast, Rod Kinsey, with other like-minded collectors, as a way to reflect the local passion for all things motorised. The Motor Museum has a strong local focus, with interesting facts about the ‘wreck of Nightingale’ on Munster Beach, dating back to 1933, including several artefacts related to the crash. As to be expected, there is also a fantastic collection of classic cars, including the grand old two-tone Chevrolet, a bright yellow Lotus Elan Plus 2, and the red Lotus Elan Series 4.

For the two-wheeled fans, there is also a selection of vintage motorcycles on display, among them a 1923 model Douglas 350cc, 1931 AJS, 1938 BSA Empire Star, DKW Hummel, Victoria Avanti and NSU Quickly. There is also a selection of alternative motorised items such as a classic John Deere, a variety of motors, 4-stroke and 2-stroke petrol engines, and magnificent steam and diesel engines. Then there’s the Motor Museum Library for the ardent motor enthusiasts seeking even more information on these well-designed museums. For information, contact 039 319 2364.
