Approximately 12kms from Port Shepstone the Umzimkulwana River has etched a spectacular gorge into the mountains to create a rugged, natural landscape of breathtaking beauty.

Oribi Vulture Viewing Hide
The Barry Porter Memorial Vulture Viewing Hide overlooks a vulture feeding station on the site of a breeding colony of over 200 Cape Vultures, situated in the phenomenal Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve. With a threatened global population of just 8,000-10,000 Cape Vultures, this is a very significant colony.
Lake Eland Suspension bridge
Activities to choose from include a self-game drive, viewing the abundant wildlife and flora to be seen from the comfort of your car. In addition guests can walk across their 80m suspension bridge, as well as take part in their fabulous Zip Line Tour, horse rides, walking and single track mountain bike trails, paintballing, and fishing. There are also some stunning picnic sites and a restaurant and tea garden close to the children’s playground.
Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve
Oribi Gorge is the most treasured natural phenomena of KwaZulu-Natal and is situated on our glorious Coast, just 11 km off the N2 near Port Shepstone. This 24 kilometre-long gorge, has been meticulously carved out by the dreamy Umzimkulwana River and is home to over 250 bird species, baboons, leopards and various small antelope.Conservation Centre and Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve, as well as Pennington’s selection of pristine beaches.
Lake Eland Game Reserve
Covering an impressive 2500 hectares in the heart of Oribi Gorge with diverse ecosystems of bushveld, grassland, coastal fields, and wetland, this natural landscape offers great peace and tranquillity. Brothers Eric and Trevor Dunstone purchased the land for conservation and founded the reserve in 2003. A large lake shaped like the eland common in bushman paintings gives the reserve its name “Lake Eland” in honour of this magnificent antelope and its symbolic meaning to the San.

The gorge, some 27kms long and 1km at its widest point, is the site of the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, a pristine slice of natural bush managed by the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, teeming with wildlife, huge indigenous trees, meandering hiking and mountain bike trails.
